On the ranch in Ellensburg with Dad
Born in Yakima, Washington in the spring of 1957 and shortly thereafter
moving to Ellensburg, Washington, we were destined to be great apple
ranchers if we had followed in our father’s footsteps. Approximately
five years later the tractor we're sitting on would be driven into
the irrigation ditch at the ranch by the two of us. We also took
it upon ourselves to help dad do some pruning one Sunday while the
rest of the family was at church, cutting about 20 trees down to
knee high. Struggling as a rancher (we weren't much help!) our father
accepted the mountain manager’s position at White Pass, a
ski area in the Cascade Mountain range. We would like to take some
credit for that decision, but we're sure being the mountain lover
he is, we had nothing to do with it.
